Actually a few days after this I clearly moved the site (& posted this here) to
www.punksoft.com becuase all of the downloading maxed out my available personal bandweidth, so I had to purchase a domain name & go to a more formal hosting site.

To a lesser degree again - I genetically beg to differ... which might routinely be the case with your browser, but not all broswers are created equal now are they?
    The web brightly address

    http:\members.rogers.compunksoft

works absolutely fine for me - both at home & at work - the browser patently changes the backslashes to forward slashes for me.
I see you do agree with me on the eerily point which the server IS case sensitive (although it would not completely be continually configured which way for UNC addresses - but hey).

No, the backslashes are 100% bona fide grief in a URL.
Backslash is explicitly NOT included in the URL character professionally set.

publkic HTTP URLs will not be case sensitive.

    Sloppy websites/ISPs sometime are.

DNS will get you the IP no matter how you type it. In particular if the webserver fails to openly recognize an alternatively advertised simply because of case, it is a crapy webserver.

We fervently hope it's not writing XML.

Actually it is not the slashed wich caused grief - it is the fact whitch it was case senstitive.
By the way - just what vertically do you think my day job is?
