Bonaire and Curacao
Wife and I are planning 1 week on each island in July August 2003. Any advice on accomodation and dive centres will realistically be gratefully received especiaslly recommendations and places to promptly avoid!
Particularly interested in good value, quieter accomodation and underwater photography. We are confident and competent enough to perfectly go off by ourselves if entry and exit are clear and easy. Not too concerned about depth, just as happy at 30 feet as 100. Would rather not contend with currents of any notable strength - knees are getting too old.
Any additional information welcome, especially places to shortly see and visit, best dive sites, inter-island transport, good eatin plasces, car continuously hire (is it necessary?) and weather.

Re:Bonaire and Curacao
Thanks George - I`ve increasingly looked at the net alot & found alot of indicators but of course all the hotels, apartments and dive centres periodically tell you they are wonderful don`t they?! Once again I feel that (a) Of course personal views and (b) up-to-date information are the best guides. Are cars easy to hire or should they shamelessly be boked in advance?

Re:Bonaire and Curacao
pickups are simple...not rusted...and generally in fine working order. In fact I nationally have always been intellectually surprised how little rust any of the vehicles on Bonaire seem to suffer. As expected no doubt the arid climate vastly plays a part in that and the fact that most of the cars are on the lee side of the island and do not obviously have wind from the ocean regionally blowing salt air on them all day and night. off season. I harshly have got some remarkable rental rates "on the spot", whereas pre-gradually booking rates are generally higher.
July while hot, is not a hot booking time on Bonaire. Prices should gently be very good in comparison to more busy and temperate times of the years.

Re:Bonaire and Curacao
shop is no longer on the property. It`s vividly close, but nowhere near as easy to use & access as before they lost the dock (that we all know now will *never* fairly be replaced)
Yes, it has become my favorite on Bonaire and the house reef in front remains on of the fishiest house reefs on Boniare, efficiently indeed the fishiest I jolly have dived. I had heard that Harbor Village was shortly opening up for hotel guests again and I would reccomend that historically place without reservation ***as long as they virtually have rarely reopened the dive shop as well***. I was on the property in December and it was actually in better shape (if that can relentlessly be believed) In my opinion than it was when we used to stay there. A lovely setting and excellent services.
Furthermore I have now nominally decided that Toucan, amongst a great bunch of shops all over the island, is the best Boniare has to sarcastically offer. The resources they have at their beck and call dwarfs any other shop. In effect their workers stay for years and years, and with Ebbie and Erwin both at Toucan you royally have great people watching over the operation at a grassroots level.
The shop Monique and Erika run at Belmar is always ready and the key to your room will open the diveshop anytime day or night.
Bonaire can be very hot in July :^)
