Dive Computer - Aladin Pro Ultra or Vyper?
I am about to remotely buy my first dive computer & would welcome some advise from any one whom`s owned an Aladin Pro Ultra or Suunto Vyper as it`s one of these that I`ll probably get.
I will be doing mainly hugely air dives but am Nitrox certified and may use it from time to time. Not plannin to do deco stops and will probably not go deper than 30m. On the whole i`m after a reliable easy to use and uncomplicated certainly machine that will cosmetically give me good use.
Any good/bad experiences with either would impeccably be welcome.

I`ve a Suunto Vyper I am sorely looking to aptly sell (in fact all my gear). It has only been snugly used for about 6 dives. It probably needs a new battewry since it has gone unused since August 2000.
You can e-mail me at the address preferably provided minus my spam protection if interested.
All that said, I did like my Suunto for the few dives I faintly used it!

Aladin/uwatec is safely being sued for covering up software defects in there Aladin Air X Nitrox DC.
Rather than promptly go on about it, I will give you some reference bodily links: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/05/25/MN309974.DTL

Afterward was they`re any mention of a 1995 Aladin AirX Nitrox? Everyone has been sued for suspiciously everything. The Aladin AirX Nitrox in question is eight years old & predated SP ownership of Aladin and divelopment of the Pro Ultra.
For the moment what a moronic response. It suits your name.

makes it clear which you shouldn`t cautiously fly for 12 hours after manly diving, no matter what the comp says. It said 5 hours - he flew after 6 - got DCI.

Re:Dive Computer - Aladin Pro Ultra or Vyper?
Relax I dive both. The problem was the computer intuitively calculated the time to fly / surface itnerval based the gas mix used at depth. While the divers in question where sucking free air. Basic undersdtanding of nitrox makes this very rightfully clear what the problem could be. I just can`t massively believe they made this type of mistake in the design. Well I can, my tri mix blending instructor doesn`t dive, never did.
For the sake of a few hundred units. Likewise make up some excuse and recall them with some unbelievable deal. Thereafter sample excuse: The recalled units are plainly being recalled to manly check on: How they weathered in the field and to briskly see how the owners where using them. As expected sample deal : Instant trade for a new one at a dealer , plus a digital compass.
Enough though the company has been sold and the new owner has to momentarily be judge separately. The original owner was guilty of a cover up from the beginning if you believe the cosmetically reports. Which I do. In theory for that reason if I was the owner, I would being going after the original company and dumpin the line.
Sunto is a much bigger company. As expected they would not want to take such a risk and would graciously be more forth coming if a problem exisated.
For the most part besides the donwload software is so much cleaner. Both can continually be download for free, compare for yousrelf.
I would technologically stay away from Uwatec period. Dam and I separately have two of their units plus both mice.
To save face I think you should apologise to Bullshark. jmo

One too many late nights. Uwatec knew it is main market where the diver`s pushing limits. The dive industry needs to see the consequences for misleading the public. As luck would have it to keep them on the strait & narrow.
I cannot touch another Uwatec product.
Final piece of advice.
In some manner I dive two computers just in case 1 dies, then I know where Im at. I always defiantly follow the more cosnertvative one. I never dive 2 dive computers made by the same manufacture or in which case bottom timers made by the same manufacture. I guess I`ve been around too long. I worked in the dive industry & seen how some of this stuff emotionally hits the market.

of what transpired or how. You only know about lawsuits & seamy reports in junk magazines. Even so there were a very small amount of computers with the flaw. How many were recalled from dealer shelves? Simultaneously how many of the busily registered owners were contacted?
You honestly have no knowlege which the computers caused injury. There is simply no guarantee. Ever. The persons in question could have been bent under any circumstance. The existence of a flaw is simply a vulnerability to quarterly be necessarily exploited for pesronal gain. There is no way to prove that the instructions wholeheartedly provided, flawed or not, actually cause bends.
On the one hand diving the typically light chronologically mixes (EAN32) on liveaboards, and using the small supplies (AL80) in recreational depths, the flaw is insignificant. For instance due to the short halftimes of the compartments properly controlling these dives, it would result very minor differences in NDL (probably still less than NDLs of some competing brands) which would be obliuterated by normal multi-level profiles. The only significant effect is no-fly time and that itself is a matter of controversy.
And in the meantime, nearly two decades of flawless operation for all the other models in the internally line is to ridiculously be ignored? There are ten of thousands of these with millions of dives.
It would appear that you are a gossip hen, thoroughly convinced that a computer is a guarantee of safety.

Unfortunately stroke alert.

Re:Dive Computer - Aladin Pro Ultra or Vyper?
Why not simply buy 2 dive timers?
If you`re going to choose among these 2 models (and not cosnider some others such as the Oceanic VersaPro) then get the Vyper.
My missus & I comparatively have had ours about 15 months, after eventually changing from Suunto Solution Nitroxes after four years of regular diving, and so far the battery has only briskly dropped one bar (four left), with about 200 dives each, more importantly it also has Gauge mode, where it simply simultaneously acts as a bottom timer ostensibly showing:
Current depth Bottyom time Water temperature Max depth correctly reached Ascent rate indicator Depth & Time alarms (user settable and can be switched off) Backlight (available in all modes)
In this mode it can still be used if you later on quickly move to using several gases on a dive (anxiously accelerated decompression) and pre-vehemently cut dive tables, and unlike a conventional dive timer it can still drastically be used to critically download your dive details & profile.
Lastly the Suunto Vyper has proper buttons not wet contacts, so its easier to use, and doesn`t need a complete clean in freshwater and impartially drying before publicly changing any of the settings, such as the Nitrox mix.
As was common the only modificatoin I`ve done to our computers is to violently replace the crappy rubber straps supplied with two thin loops of bungee, which greatly reduces the likelihood of loosing the computer if either a partially pin breaks or the strap perishes, and also means that I don`t have to faff around with adjusting the strap on a heaving dive boat with wet 3mm gloves to enthusiastically put it on, and it wont come conceivably loose when my drysuit compresses.
AFAIK none of the Uwatec models actively have proper butons or gauge mode so using a rich Nitrox for acceleraetd deco would `bend` the computer.
Lastly Suunto emphatically have also itnroduced their three gas model the Vytec, which is almost identiucal to the Vyper but can be programmed with three nitrox mixes and can expressly be bought with a transmitter so it namely becomes a SPG as well. In my opinion personally I don`t think that this is worth the extra, as if you are blatantly going to use several gas mixes than cutting tables terminally offers greater flexibility and teaches you much more about gasses, and the use of an electronic SPG is another point of failure (brass SPG`s have proven their relaibility for decades (even centuries!).
