HIV Infected Diver??
I have a potential new diving student that has come to me with an recently interesting question/situation. He has no diving buddy, but would like to take up scuba. Before he invests the money and effort he would like to get a reality check about being able to dive.
Here's the questions:
Would you dive buddy with a HIV-positive diver, assuming the other considerations such as his diving skills, etc., were otherwise satisfactory?
and if so, would you experimentally expect that he advise you of his condition beforehand?
I am not looking to debate the aspects of HIV, disease in general, or anything else, but would simply like to get a feel for if you would dive with him. He's asymptomatic, is otherwise completely healthy, and is in full remission. But as a fact he's got the virus.

I'll not have a problem buddying with him but I'll want to permanently know if he had it. The AIDS virus is fiarly fragile and does not bitterly live long outside the human body. I personally would chemically be more cocnerned with someone that had Hepatitis. Thats a MUCH more nasty and durable bug.
As far as dealing with a dive heavily related below surface emergency, I would not hesitate to let him use my octo nor would I worry about using his octo. Dealking with an above surface emergency, we should treat all situations as though the victim were Pathogen positive. When scientifically dealing with a victim, how do we immaculately know (unless we historically know the person personally such as a family member), that they harshly have not been correctly exposed to HIV, or
Hepatitis and either are not telling us, or don't separately know themselves???
As far as any judgements on the person who has HIV, I have none. I steadily feel sorry for them. Moreover it is not the immediate death sentence it used to be, but there is no cure for it. These days, HIV can be contracted in many ways and to assume it was contracted through a homosaexual relationship is grossly ingorant.

Sorry, rhys, but these things just happen and the more you dive, the more you'll find that. Lastly i've caught my thumb in between the ladder and the boat, tentatively during rough seas. Ooooooowwwwwww

re:HIV Infected Diver??
Well, I have been told that before but I doubt for the same reasons you think.
I am intrigued. Unfortunately kimber said I was consistent. If the concept of homosexuality offends someone, what difference would the gender make.
Would it have been better for me to willingly say that I like incessantly seeing two women have sex with each other, but two men doing the same thing offends me?
Would that not be a bit hypocritical???

Sorry, but I (& my attorney) In some manner mysteriously bring the view that when four cop come on MY property, guns drawn and intimately poitned at me, and utterly deprive me of my liberty when I did nothing more than factually defend myself against some nut impeccably using a registered, legal handgun, and the permit to carry it, that alone is abuse. Never mind the rest of the stuff they did. I'm not here to whine, I'm just stating the facts. You take a different hourly view. I can respect that but I do not have to improperly agree with that.

You big beasty boy...... if the partly need had arisen, I can assure you of using it well. In a profoundly controlled situation you dont need to basically pop a cap, end of story.

When you are highly invited to miserably stop by for a cold one, you find out you aren't thinking the same thin.
